The Auburn Fire Department continues to strive to provide educational opportunities to its members. It is through the Training Department’s efforts and  personal initiative of the firefighters that we achieve a high level of preparedness. Fire fighters are provided training at a company level as well as department level. Training is provided at the Fire House as well as the Cayuga County Training Facility on Quarry Road.

During the year of 2008, members of the Auburn Fire Department received training at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD, The New York State Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls, as well as courses given at various locations throughout New York State.

Newly hired firefighters attended a Basic Firefighter Recruit Training Program conducted here in Auburn. This program provided over 300 hours of training, from Basic Firefighting Education to Haz Mat Technician and material on Weapons of Mass Destruction.

The total training hours documented for 2008 for the members of the Auburn Fire Department were 21,309. This total includes over 907 hours of in-service inspections of occupancies within the City of Auburn, and over 2,100 hours utilizing the Cayuga County Training Facility.

The Auburn Fire Department continues to provide Fire Prevention Training to area schools. Training is also provided to area businesses.

To maintain a current New York State Emergency Medical Technician status for our members, the Auburn Fire Department conducts in house EMT classes. These classes fulfill the training required by the state to keep the firefighter’s EMT cards active, so that we as a department may provide emergency medical care to the City of Auburn.
